Spring is promising to be a busy time here at PatchWork Collective. Find out what’s coming, and how you can sign up for any of our workshops, networking meetups, and special events.
Spring is Event Season at PatchWork Collective
Spring is always an interesting time in Michigan. I call it “groundhog season.” All we die-hard Michiganders have been cooped up all winter, so as soon as the snow melts, we hit the streets. We go walking around Downtown Ferndale, check out the zoo or the latest restaurant, and start filling our social calendar.
Turns out, this phenomenon happens in the coworking world too. After months of putting our heads down and getting work done over the winter, we coworkers are ready to pick our heads up, look around, and connect with our community. That’s certainly true here at PatchWork. Spring hasn’t even officially started, and already our events calendar is filling up. And you can get in on the fun.
March Events at PatchWork Collective
Spring means event season in many industries. Here at PatchWork Collective we have everything from informational presentations and panels to a non-profit euchre tournament. Here’s what’s coming up at the PatchWork Collective
Coworking isn’t all about getting work done. Sometimes it’s about having fun with your community. The PatchWork Collective has teamed up with our friendly local game store The Loaded Die to host a Dungeons & Dragons Mega Game. Over 30 players will come together in one epic storytelling event. Tickets are available through Eventbrite or in-person at The Loaded Die in the Rustbelt Market. A personal favorite of CEO Lisa Schmidt, this event promises to be a ton of fun. It is scheduled for Saturday, March 9 at 11:00 a.m.
Want to learn more about the psychological concept of emotional intelligence? This concept helps to explain why some people with a high IQ simply are not successful. Dr. Michael L. Schwartz of Positive Concepts Inc. is bringing that knowledge to the PatchWork Community in his brown-bag dinner discussion “Emotional Intelligence: The Misunderstood Factor for Success”. Register for this event through our Community Member Portal or find out more on Facebook. This event is scheduled for Monday, March 11 at 6:00 p.m.
We love to support the local business community. So we are teaming up with the Ferndale Area Chamber of Commerce to sponsor their spring Euchre Tournament. Proceeds will go to support the chamber. The event will include a cash bar, food from some of our favorite local eateries, and a playful competitive spirit. Bring your best Euchre partner! Register for this event through Eventbrite or find out more information on Facebook. This event is scheduled for Friday, March 22 at 6:00 p.m.
Our monthly community meetup events are going strong heading into the spring season. Whether you’re ready to build your business, or looking to unwind with a night of creative expression, there’s an event for you. Here’s what we’ve got coming up:
Join the monthly writing meetup with Lisa Schmidt the Legal Linguist. Write Night gives Metro Detroit writers a chance to come together, collaborate, and inspire one another. Writers will be given a chance to share their work and get constructive feedback, but only if they want to. This is a free monthly meetup that happens the 4th Thursday of every month right here at the PatchWork Collective. RSVPs are appreciated using PatchWork’s Community Member Portal. You can also find more information on Facebook. The next Write Night is this Thursday, February 28 at 6:00 p.m.
If what you really need is a chance to try coworking without the cost or commitment of membership, then there’s a monthly meetup for that too. The first Friday of every month, the PatchWork Collective hosts a Free Work Friday. Remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs are invited to come work with us, enjoy our coffee (tea and cocoa are also available) and check out everything the PatchWork Collective has to offer. RSVPs are appreciated using PatchWork’s Community Member Portal. You can also find more information on Facebook. The next Free Work Friday is this Friday, March 1 at 6:00 p.m.
If you’re looking to build your business, there is no better way than to connect with other local freelancers and business owners. An open, casual networking event is a great way to meet your next big referral source, or just get to know the members of your local coworking community. The Metro Detroit Freelancers Network is hosting it’s next open networking event on Monday, March 4 at 6:00 p.m.
Coworking is a great environment for creative professionals. Designers, artists, animators, and writers can all benefit from the sense of community and mutual support at the PatchWork Collective. To foster that feeling of community, we host a free creativity night on the first Thursday of every month. Artists and crafters can bring their current work in progress and get crafty in the company of like-minded community members. RSVPs are appreciated using PatchWork’s Community Member Portal. You can also find more information on Facebook. The next Creativity Night is Thursday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.
